What Counts as E-Waste — And Why It Shouldn't Sit Around

E-waste — old electronics and electrical equipment — is the fastest-growing waste category worldwide. In Singapore, that covers everything from dead smartphones to retired office printers to that wheezing old fridge in the kitchen.

The longer it sits, the more risk it carries. Old lithium batteries inside discarded devices can swell and become fire hazards. Corroded components leach toxic material. And every cabinet full of old hardware is space you can't use for anything else.

Improper disposal isn't just inconvenient — it's actually harmful. Lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic inside consumer electronics can contaminate soil and water when dumped in general waste. Singapore's regulations around regulated e-waste streams exist for that reason.

In our 10+ years of clearing Singaporean homes and offices, we've seen a lot of e-waste sitting in storerooms for months because the customer wasn't sure where it should go. The answer is usually: not the general bin chute, not the void deck — through a proper recycling channel. We handle that part.

What we don't take: loose lithium batteries outside a device, cars or motorcycles, chemicals, asbestos, food waste, gas tanks.

How We Route Your E-Waste

Sort at Source

E-waste gets separated from general bulky items before anything leaves your premises. That single step is what determines whether it ends up in the right recycling stream or mixed into general waste.

Through Licensed Intermediaries

Items go through licensed waste-management intermediaries equipped to handle proper material recovery — dismantling, separating metals and plastics, and routing hazardous components through the right channels.

Honest About What We Are and Aren't

We're a collection and routing service — not a NEA-licensed e-waste collector and not a data-destruction specialist. If you need formal certificates of destruction or NEA paperwork, a licensed operator will serve you better. For everything else, we'll get it cleared and properly routed.

Booking Pickup — Three Steps

1

WhatsApp Us a Photo

Send a quick photo of the electronics you need cleared. We respond with a free quote — no need to estimate volume yourself.

2

Confirm a Pickup Window

We agree a collection time that works for you. Pickup typically happens within 24–48 hours of confirmation; same-day is sometimes possible subject to availability (extra charges may apply).

3

We Handle Collection and Routing

Our crew collects and transports your e-waste. Items go through licensed recycling intermediaries equipped to recover materials properly — not into general waste.

Why Proper Routing Matters

Hazardous Materials Don't Belong in General Waste

A single CRT monitor can contain several kilos of lead. Smartphones carry mercury and cadmium. Lithium batteries degrade and can become fire hazards in storage. The longer these items sit around without a proper destination, the greater the risk.

Recoverable Materials Locked Inside

Electronics contain recoverable copper, aluminium, gold, palladium and rare-earth elements. Material recovery at scale reduces the need for environmentally destructive mining. None of that happens if the item ends up in a general-waste incinerator.

Semakau Has a Deadline

Singapore's only landfill is projected to reach capacity by 2035. Every kilo of e-waste routed into recycling instead of incineration is a small contribution to extending its life. The maths only works if proper sorting and routing happen up-front — at the collection point — rather than at the back end of a mixed-waste load.

What We Actually Do

  • Sort e-waste from general bulky items at your premises
  • Route through licensed intermediaries equipped for material recovery
  • Bulk office IT clearances on schedule
  • 10+ years operating across Singapore

Frequently Asked Questions

Typical lead time is 24–48 hours from when we confirm the booking. Same-day collection is sometimes available subject to availability and may incur an extra charge — message us and we'll let you know what's feasible for your timing.

Phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, TVs, monitors, printers, scanners, networking gear, cables, chargers, small kitchen appliances, and large appliances like fridges, washers and air-con units. If you're unsure whether something qualifies, send us a photo on WhatsApp and we'll confirm.

We collect batteries only when they're part of a proper e-waste setup (e.g. inside a UPS unit or with the original device). Loose lithium cells and damaged batteries need to go through dedicated battery-recycling channels — we can point you to the correct drop-off if you're unsure.

We don't run a recycling facility ourselves. Items go through licensed waste-management intermediaries who handle proper material recovery — separating metals, plastics, and other streams — before anything reaches the general disposal chain. We don't claim NEA-licensed status, and we don't offer certificates of destruction. For organisations that need formal documentation, you'll want a NEA-licensed e-waste collector who provides that paperwork directly.

Yes — bulk office clearances are part of what we do. PCs, monitors, printers, networking equipment, peripherals, accumulated old hardware. We can schedule outside business hours where access allows; after-hours pickups carry an extra charge. Note we don't provide formal data-destruction certificates — for offices with strict data-handling requirements, wipe drives before collection or engage a specialist data-destruction provider.

We strongly recommend wiping or destroying drives yourself before collection if your data is sensitive. Once items leave your premises with us, we route them into the recycling chain — but we don't provide formal data-destruction certificates and aren't a substitute for specialist data-sanitisation services if your organisation requires that paperwork.
